This book showcases the recent work of Gerhard Richter. After a short introduction to his early work, featuring pictures which the artist has kept in his studio, the publication gives an almost complete overview of Richter's work from the last three years. In addition to mainly abstract works, a cycle of eight pictures in smaller format of an intimate, private nature developed. Gerhard Richter has already used autobiographic elements in earlier years, but they appear stronger in this sequence of motifs which portray his young wife Sabine with child in a madonna-like attitude. With its full page colored illustrations, this publication, designed by the artist himself, is an extraordinary document of contemporary art. Apart from a number of exhibitions at home and abroad, Gerhard Richter has participated six times in the documenta and twice in the Biennial in Venice.
