Great Wall

by

Great Wall is part of a series by Warren Neidich depicting altered versions of the American flag. Here, he bends the stripes of the flag so they appear to be going around a corner, disrupting the familiar image while leaving its most essential, recognizable elements intact. Much like Jasper Johns did in his seminal 1955 painting Flag , Neidich changes the context, and questions the meaning, of an icon loaded with symbolism that is part of our collective visual conscious.
