Make/Do

by

A collection of illustrated essays by graphic designers, critics, curators, and photographers on the theme of MAKE/DO , presenting outcomes from the 2011 gathering of DesignInquiry, a non-a non-profit educational organization devoted to researching design issues in intensive team-based gatherings. The authors consider how design responds to improvisation and constraint, using limitations as opportunities in creative practice. The publication, consisting of sixteen individually bound booklets housed together in a slipcase, can be re-arranged and read in any order. MAKE/DO invites improvisation and play. “We will ask whether we can design in such a way that encourages people to make do—to make our thing do something new.” Includes essays by Emily Luce, Maia Wright, Margo Halverson, Peter Hall, Rachele Riley, Brooke Chornyak, Leanne Elias & Glen MacKimmon, Liz Craig, Melle Hammer, Richard Kegler, Anita Cooney, Ben Van Dyke, Lindsey Culpepper, and Gabrielle Esperdy. DesignInquiry is an alternative to the design conference, bringing together practitioners from disparate fields to generate new work and ideas around a single topic. Designed by Maia Wright Published by DesignInquiry 16 individually bound and variously paginated booklets in a slipcase, digitally printed, 6 × 8.75 inches ISBN: 978-0-98-899150-7
