Marina Paris. Other Spaces – Other Chances
Photographic shots meticulously documenting so-called non-places. Transit environments , common crossing spaces , schools, stations, waiting rooms and public spaces. "The series of Marina Paris' recent photographic works depicts various interiors, long corridors, rooms or larger or smaller halls of old buildings, sometimes empty, sometimes furnished or otherwise decorated. The old wall hangings, stucco-decorated ceilings, terracotta or stone floors, parquet floors, wall and ceiling colors present a material, real and graspable world in which habitual experiences find confirmation in visual appearances. The atmosphere of this empty architectural environment is detached, habitual, real and impersonal. Nonetheless, a strange feeling arises, a latent, unexplained disorientation is created, the viewer wonders if there is something in those spaces that does not totally agree with his or her habitual experiences...Looking longer at Marina Paris' recent works, one gradually realizes that those spaces have certain irregularities with respect to a logical architectural structure. There are doors that have no reasonable function, lighting effects that do not correspond to the actual conditions of the space in question, architectural elements that do not fit with the general structure of the building that the viewer imagines, although these are not dramatic contradictions."
