Perugino – Raffaels Meister

Around 1500 Pietro Perugino (1445–1523) was one of the most successful artists of the Italian Renaissance. Even far away from the centers where he worked, Florence and Perugia , famous patrons solicited his services. Starting with a major work by the master, which King Ludwig I was able to acquire for Munich in the early 19th century, this splendid volume goes on to encompass Perugino’s entire artistic career. A concentrated look at a wide selection of paintings and drawings shows us the highly individual aesthetic and spiritual qualities of his art; special attention is paid to the works of his mature period. Besides Perugino’s religious creations, sensitive portraits and mythological depictions allow the humanist ideals of his time to come alive.
