Raku ware started with the first generation of the Raku family, Chojiro, during the Momoyama period in 16th-century Japan. Since that time, successive generations of the family have continued to pass on the unique tradition and techniques behind the production of these highly sought-after ceramics to the present day. Even the production and firing methods are still the same as they were 450 years ago.
