Score by Score / Oh Min

by

Conceived as an extension of Oh Min’s study of score, which she has maintained in parallel with her work with video and performance. Consisting of interviews with seven other artists who make and use scores in their practices; in each conversation, Oh Min discusses “perspectives coming from several fields spanning music, dance and visual arts,” and explores the possibility of expanding the notion of the score. With responses from a dance theorist, a choreographer, three visual artists, a composer, and an experimental musician, Oh Min's work makes an important contribution to “score research.” With contributions by Kim Jaelee, Kwon Lyon Eun, Nam Hwayeon, Park Bona, Zhana Ivanova, Hans Roels, and Hong Chulki. Two inks are used in this bilingual book: black for conversations, and dark green for score examples. The monospace-looking typeface (Panama by The Temporary State) creates a slightly unfamiliar sense of irregular modularity, while specially designed punctuation marks are used for different kinds of titles (books, exhibitions, performances). Designed by Sulki and Min Published by Specter Press and Workroom Bilingual, text in Korean and English Hardcover, 144 pages, offset, 5.5 × 8.65 inches ISBN 978-89-94207-85-8
