Summer of Love

"Psychedelia" is one of the most interesting phenomena of twentieth-century cultural history. Summer of Love is the first publication to examine the unique association that existed between art and pop culture, as well as between advertising and the political protest movement, during the nineteen-sixties and seventies. An extraordinary aesthetic developed, reflecting not only social, political, ethnic, and sexual liberation, but also experiments with mind-altering drugs such as LSD were reflected. This volume presents works by Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama, Verner Panton's space utopias, sequences from Velvet Underground music videos and Deep Purple concerts, and stills from experimental films and the Hollywood productions they influenced. In these works, we see the great creative and utopian potential of psychedelic art, as well as proof of its strong effect on everyday culture.
