The Vampyre is a short story by John William Polidori, first published in 1819. It is often credited as the first modern vampire story, introducing the vampire archetype that would later be popularized by Bram Stoker's Dracula. The story follows Lord Ruthven, a mysterious and charismatic figure who preys upon the young and innocent.
