This Way! Navigation Tools in Visual Communication

Polish type foundry Threedotstype is obsessed with arrows. This love of directive symbols spawned this work: a guide, set in Di Grotesk, that provides background and context for arrows and phenomena related to them. The publication accompanied a 2019 exhibition at the Weltformat Graphic Design Festival in Luzern, Switzerland. Understanding the history of signs in our environment can help us better understand the development of human perception. While the guide may not set a course for your life, the explanations may reveal stories that highlight an active, but often hidden, part of everyday life. Together with a companion typeface specimen, This Way! seeks to provide a broader context and appreciation for the shapes that help us get where we're going.
