Biophilia

by

By Annegian van Doorn From fluorescent flamingos to golden pineapples, from giraffes on the wall to fish-like pens in the aquarium, we humans seem to surround ourselves with all kinds of “design” objects that remind us of nature. But do these things bring us closer to nature or make that distance greater? This phenomenon inspired Dutch visual artist Annegien van Doorn to create Biophilia , a photobook full of strange and artificial encounters with nature, but also its personification. Through her wry reflection on the absurdity of the world we create, she hopes to encourage a revaluation of actual nature: do flowers compare colors? Do fish want to be kissed? Van Doorn thinks perhaps they just might… Designed by Maartje Slipjpen and Merel Witteman Published by Annegien van Doorn Printed in a limited edition of 500 copies Hardcover, 116 pages, color and b&w images, 6.45 × 9.3 inches ISBN: 978-9-09-035523-8
