Lake Effect

by

By Gunnar Harrison In 1959, a railroad causeway was built directly through Great Salt Lake (Utah), creating a salinity imbalance and consequently a striking water color discrepancy between the north and south sides. Lake Effect showcases aerial photos of this phenomenon and splices them together, creating new compositions and raising questions about human influence on natural environments. Includes an interview with Dr. Bonnie K. Baxter, Professor of Biology at Westminster College and Director of Great Salt Lake Institute. Also includes John Muir’s first-hand account of floating in Great Salt Lake, original published in his posthumous work Steep Trails (1918). Designed and published by Gunnar Harrison, 2020 Published in a limited edition of 200 copies 104 pages, perfect bound, b&w and full color digital printing, 5 × 8 inches
