Kunst zum Hören: Hans Holbein d. Ä.

Alongside Martin Schongauer and Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Elder (around 1465-1524) was one of the most important German painters of his time. His art stands in between epochs, at the threshold between the late Gothic era and the Renaissance. The Graue Passion is considered one of Holbein’s major works, as well as one of the most unusual Passion cycles of old German art. Along with the companion catalogue, the official audio guide to the exhibition at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart presents about forty color illustrations of the cycle, which was created between 1494 and 1500. An exemplary selection of works by Holbein’s predecessors and contemporaries illuminates the artistic heritage and effects of the Graue Passion.
