Makoto Wada: Works on Film cover

Makoto Wada: Works on Film

by

Makoto Wada (1936–2019) is counted among Japan’s most influential graphic designers and illustrators. For him, film was a lifelong source of creativity. As a young designer he tried his hand at creating movie posters and animated films, and his charming style soon gained widespread acclaim. Wada ended up producing countless illustrations of international film figures along with a series of books and dialogues on movies. His passion became a force in Japanese cinema, leading him to direct four feature-length films of his own. This vast collection of movie and cinema posters accompanied the 2023-2024 exhibition Makoto Wada: Works on Film at the National Film Archive of Japan Gallery. Designed by Michiyo Muramatsu Published by Kokushokankokai, 2023 Primarily in Japanese, with some English translations Softcover, 144 pages, b&w and color, 9 × 11 inches ISBN: 978-4-33-607579-6
