Type West is a postgraduate certificate program in type design available in-person in San Francisco or online to students worldwide. The program is offered by the Letterform Archive, and when the yearlong course finishes, student typeface projects are celebrated with a printed specimen book. The 2023 edition of this collective type specimen features the work of both the In-Person and Online cohorts, showcasing an array of type designs that reflect the creativity, skill, and diversity of the program's participants. This specimen book is a valuable resource for typographers, graphic designers, educators, and students. It provides a snapshot of current approaches to type design and serves as both a tool for study and a historical record of contemporary practice and type design pedagogy. Includes contributions from Gloria Boadwee, Clara Cayosa, Tim Cronin, Joshua Michael Diaz, Eva Edgren, Adriana Garcidueñas, Seth Hamlin, Ale Hernández, David Huang, Huy Lê, Aasawai Kulkarni, Beto Lopéz Tristán, Jerome Lousick, Rishi Murugesan, Avery Lee Qiu Wen, Carolina de Lima, Raquel Rodriguez, Allie Schmitz, Kurt F.
