What Can Books Do?

by

This collaborative publication features graphic responses from Otis GD MFA 2024 candidates, as well as short interviews. What Books Can Do? is the printed outcome of a workshop with Draw Down Books (Christopher Sleboda and Kathleen Sleboda) at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles in June 2024. The graduate student interviews and their graphic interpretations of contemporary design titles offer a unique perspective on the evolving landscape of design-related publications and publications by designers. What Can Books Do? captures the interests, thoughts, and perspectives of graduate students on the cusp of attaining their MFA, creating a historical capsule of design discourse and emerging talent that will be of interest to those studying design pedagogy and the history of design education. Graphic contributions designed and printed by Aurora Cecconi, Angie Chan, Wai Yan Cheung, Anthony Luna, Darah Haimovitz, Amanda Liu, Graciela De La Maza, Poppy Pu, Jack Riley, Yolanda Sinaga, Antonio Valverde, Xingfei Wang, Nano Wu, and Gama Yangzong Cover design by Gama Yangzong Interview layouts designed and typeset by Angie Chan and Wai Yan Cheung Printed in a limited edition of 97 copies Softcover, 78 pages, covered saddle-stitch binding, 1-, 2-, and 3 color Risograph and 1-color laserprint, 7.25 × 10.10 inches
