Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident recognized for his efforts to expose political repression within the Soviet Union. He is best known for his nonfiction work The Gulag Archipelago, which challenged the Soviet state and reached a global audience. In 1970, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the ethical force with which he pursued the traditions of Russian literature.
