Alexandr Solzhenitsyn

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident who gained international recognition for his efforts to expose political repression within the Soviet Union. His seminal nonfiction work, The Gulag Archipelago, provided a critical examination of the Soviet prison system. In 1970, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for the ethical force with which he pursued the traditions of Russian literature.
