David Goldblatt (1930–2018) was a South African documentary photographer recognized for his nuanced portrayal of the country's people and political landscape during the apartheid era. His work focused on the underlying conditions of society rather than solely on violent events. Following the end of apartheid, he shifted his focus toward landscape photography, while also authoring various books and articles on architecture, aesthetics, and structural analysis.
