Dionne Brand

Dionne Brand is a Canadian poet, novelist, essayist, and documentarian born in 1953. She served as Toronto's third poet laureate from 2009 to 2012, becoming the city's first Black poet laureate. A recipient of the Order of Canada, her extensive list of honors includes the Governor General's Award for poetry, the Trillium Book Award, and the Toronto Book Award. She currently resides in Toronto.
