Henri Rousseau

Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (1844–1910) was a French post-Impressionist painter known for his work in the Naïve or Primitive style. Often called Le Douanier, a reference to his career as a tax collector, he began painting seriously in his forties. He retired from his government position at age 49 to dedicate himself to his art full-time, focusing on landscape and figure painting.
