La Monte Young
La Monte Young is an American composer, musician, and performance artist recognized as a pioneer of minimalism and a central figure in post-war avant-garde music. Best known for his exploration of sustained tones, he began his influential work with the 1958 composition Trio for Strings. His later text scores, including Compositions 1960, challenged traditional definitions of music and continue to influence artists across the avant-garde, rock, and ambient genres.
