Lorraine O'Grady
Lorraine O'Grady (1934–2024) was an American artist, writer, translator, and critic who began her art career at age 45. Her conceptual and performance work integrated photo and video installation to explore the cultural construction of identity, particularly Black female subjectivity. Educated at Wellesley College and the University of Iowa, she focused her practice on the themes of diaspora, hybridity, and the shared human experience.
