Lucius Apuleius

Lucius Apuleius was a 2nd-century Numidian prose writer, rhetorician, and Platonist philosopher. Born in Madauros, he studied in Athens and traveled extensively throughout the Mediterranean. He is known for his initiation into various mystery cults and for his published defense, the Apologia, which he delivered after being accused of using magic to court a wealthy widow.
