Pauline Réage was the pen name of French journalist, literary critic, and novelist Anne Cécile Desclos, who lived from 1907 to 1998. Active as a writer, translator, and literary editor, she is best known for authoring the 1954 erotic novel Story of O. Her professional career spanned several decades and included significant contributions to literature as both a novelist and a critic.
