Shihab al-Din al-Nuwayri
Shihab al-Din al-Nuwayri was an Egyptian historian, calligrapher, and civil servant who served under the Bahri Mamluk dynasty. He is best known for compiling The Ultimate Ambition in the Arts of Erudition, a massive 9,000-page encyclopedia covering subjects ranging from zoology and anatomy to history and chronology. Composed between 1314 and 1333, his work also provides an extensive account of the Mongol conquest of Syria.
