Tokuko Shimizu: Textile Posters

by

Having developed a visual language that is quite her own, Tokuko Shimizu’s body of work reflects an ongoing interest in art, history, and culture, as well as a conscious commitment to exploring diverse techniques. She works in oil, Japanese painting, illustration, weaving, traditional Japanese dye, and fabric patchwork collage. Tokuko’s creative path evolved in close proximity to everyday life while raising two children in Tokyo, serving as an escape from her expected role within the family and societal pressures. ‘Textile Posters’ presents her textile collage work, expressive objects with bright colour fields and sequins which freely mix personal experiences and imagery. 72 p, ills colour, 19 x 26 cm, hb, Japanese/English
