In Greek mythology, the nymph Echo, daughter of Earth and Air and victim of an unrequited love, becomes a voice which repeats the last sounds of words pronounced. This myth was used to try and give a poetic explanation to a well-known acoustic phenomenon, which is now generally accepted as a game, but must have unsettled people somewhat in ancient times. I didn’t ask Luigi Tazzari if, in choosing the title Visual Echoes for this series of photographs, he had been guided by the suggestion of the classical myth or if there was some other reason. Whatever the reason, the title is highly appropriate for his research because, in the same way that the echo distorts the sounds it repeats, these pictures alter the reality reproduced. It would be superfluous to emphasise the intentional nature of this transformation, if it weren’t necessary to wonder about the reasons.
