Sylvia Beach (1887–1962) was an American-born bookseller and publisher who spent the majority of her life in Paris. During the interwar period, she became a prominent figure among the city's expatriate community. Her work as a publisher and proprietor of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore established her as a significant contributor to the literary culture of the era.
