FRANCESCO DI GIORGIO ALLA CORTE DI FEDERICO DA MONTEFELTRO, Vol. I & II

Upon arriving in Urbino, Francesco di Giorgio brought from Siena his experience as a hydraulic and machine engineer together with that of a painter and sculptor: his architecture for Federico da Montefeltro was among the most original of the late 15th century, as were his “Treaties.” The essays in these volumes investigate the reasons through the examination of the historical context, the comparison between his artistic treatise and architectural production, the discussion of the influence on the main architects of the time. Francesco Paolo Fiore is full professor of History of Architecture at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome. He has carried out research on the history of architecture and on Renaissance architectural treatises.
